With art and science we investigate and explore the world around us and ourselves within it. While science is a cautious ladder, art can give us winged flight. And among the arts, I have always felt that each is best suited to particular spheres or domains. Some of the art shows were combined with my poetry, plays, and launches of my novels.
A stage play can reveal, explore, a human relationship, a few hours in a lifetime, a birth, a death, a revelation.
A novel can expand that moment into a month, a year, a lifetime, or more. And that life, in a novel, can have an inner world as well, and be seen from one or multiple pairs of eyes.
A film can add sound, music, and magic to that life, and invite the viewer to walk alongside.
I have been painting since childhood, watercolours and oils.
I'm afraid my painting never settled into a single style or brand, but rather explored and borrowed from many. I think I mainly leave complex and lengthy subjects to plays and novels, and when I paint, I try instead to capture a moment in the landscape, looking at and feeling the life within.
COVID interrupted the production of one of my plays, and also closed Gallery on the Bay.
We left Hamilton and settled in West Kelowna, and I have resumed painting and writing, my painting now influenced by the mountains and skies of our new world.
